Recommendations for the Care of Your Poms

Dog food: I recommend Taste of the Wild (bison) from tractor supply or Royal canine
I recommend dry food only. Poms are casual eaters and dry food can be left out for them without them overeating. I do not recommend feeding them moist food. It is not as healthy for their teeth.

Treats: Fruit (limited) and raw vegetables in small portions such as carrots, broccoli, or apple chunks are healthy low- calorie treats. Cheerios (limited)

Chewing: CET Chews excellent for their teeth. You can find them @ amazon.com for less in bulk.(small or petite)

Flea and tick control: It has been my experience that Frontline Plus is the only product that has worked. This product should not be applied until at least three days after their bath. Please do not use over-the-counter flea dips. These can be toxic to their sensitive skin.
(Buy for an 89-132 lb dog. You’ll get 6-8 doses out of one vile)

Anti-worm medications: I recommend using Heartgard once a month.

Grooming:
You must be sure that the anal area is shaved often. It is very important that this be done.

The dew claw: Poms have a fifth toenail on the inside of their front two paws and on occasion the back paws as well. Please make sure that this nail is clipped as well as all of the others.

Brushes: I use a small slicker brush and a metal comb. When using the slicker brush, use only the weight of the brush (do not apply downward pressure) to brush the hair. Brush or comb any area only about five times.

Bathing: I recommend using (human) baby shampoo. Do not use conditioners, as these tend to weigh down and dull the hair. Do not bathe your Poms more than once every 3-4 weeks. Bathing dries out their sensitive skin.

Toys: Provide plenty of toys and bones for your Poms. If your dog seems to lose interest in a toy or bone, do not throw it away. Pick up the toys and bones and store them for a while before bringing them out again. Rotating these items will save you money.

Provide your Pom with lots of love and attention. They are a wonderful breed and have much love and affection to give back to you.

Vitamin Supplements: NuVet Which you can read all about on my NuVet page.

Housetraining: For housetraining I highly reccomend a book called The Super Simple guide to Housetraining by: Teoti Anderson

Your puppy will be trained to an exercise pen similar to this one.

You'll want to choose a play pen that doesn't allow access for you puppy to climb out of it. The bars should be vertical without the horizontal bars. Also, a little taller is better for Pomeranians as they are incredible smart.
